Lecturers of the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH, will not be returning to class rooms until all their arrears have been paid. The position of the lecturers was made know by a senior lecturer of the department of Engineering (name withheld).
“The students should forget about lectures for now because we won’t be going to classes until all our arrears have been paid.
“They should stay back in their hostels or go home. No lecturer will enter into classrooms until our demands have been met,” he said.
Meanwhile, no fewer than two students have been hospitalized after students of the institution clashed with soldiers on Wednesday.
The confrontation was allegedly triggered when soldiers, acting on the instruction of the school Rector prevented the protesting students from gaining entrance into the school premises.
According to Femi, an ND II student of Engineering, “the soldiers did not allow us to enter the school. The Student Union President approached them to explain our plights to them, rather than listen to him; they (soldiers) started to slap him. The Vice-President who tried to intervene was also beaten up.
He continued that at that point, the other students intervened by throwing stone at the soldiers, while the soldiers also attacked by shooting which later hit a student.
“It was at this point that we had to do something to save them from the brutality of the soldiers. Some students started to throw stones at them. The soldiers retaliated and in the process a student was shot in the leg,” Femi concluded.
