A former Governor of Kaduna State and former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has declared his intention to run for president in 2019.

He explained that he had consulted widely and arrived at the conclusion that the time had come for him to contest for the exalted position of Nigeria’s President.

According to him, if elected in 2019, restructuring the country, tackling insecurity, fighting corruption with due process and rule of law, improving the economy, reuniting the nation are top among what his administration will do for the country.

Speaking on the chances of his party (the PDP) producing Nigeria’s next president, Makarfi said, the crisis rocking the ruling APC, is an advantage for his party to emerge victorious in the election.

Makarfi, however, commended president Buhari’s administration’s fight against insurgency, although noting that the successes recorded would have been overwhelming if the institution of the government had worked together.
