On Saturday, Nigeria lost their opening match suffering a 2-0 defeat against Croatia with a own-goal from Oghenekaro Etebo and a goal from Luka Modric.
The hope of the Super Eagles qualifying to the next round (2nd round) of the tournament seems more impossible now having two more matches against Iceland and Argentina.
Now the question now is will the Super Eagles scale through the Group of Death hazards and make it to the second round of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup?
Below are some opinions from football fans…
Rufai Bolaji (Lagos) Unemployed graduate:
Yes it is very possible, Mexico just defeated Germany and this mundial is filled with surprises. we can win our next two games and go on to the next phase. However, we have to be more composed in all departments and play with as if there is a good game plan. Confidence is also germane.
Oreoluwa Oladapo (Lagos) Media practitioner:
Yes, Nigeria will qualify. We will beat Iceland and draw Argentina.
Abdulhafeez Onitilo (Lagos) Digital marketer:
Yes they can still qualify, it looks very hard but a win in our second match is very necessary, anything less than that means we are out of the competition.
Ade Favour (Lagos) Student:
It’s a big NO, we don’t have the ammunition nor the personality to push out of the group Stage. Also if you see other teams, there main man usually steps up, but we don’t have that person in Nigeria, all our top players folded up and played timid football.
Alade Peter (Kaduna) Teacher:
100% sure. We showed good character, Besides, Croatia is the toughest opponent in that group.
Adesuyi Victor (Bayelsa) Corp member:
No, because the other team in the group have something to build on, which is at least a point. But we don’t have anything. And also we have good players but we lack brilliant guys who can make things happen. Our players know how to play but it goes beyond that, you must know how to read the game and change the game. If you can’t play but you are brilliant, it is better. But if you are brilliant you must be able to play good football.
Amosu Samuel (Lagos) Student:
I don’t think so, Nigeria can’t qualify to the next round. With the way we played? It’s visible to the blind and audible to the deaf.
Lawal Ahmed (Lagos) Analyst:
They can’t qualify. They are not showing any commitment and they don’t have the quality to rub shoulder with their counterparts in the group.
Abdulwahab Nurudeen (California) Finance manager:
Yeah, they will qualify, because I have faith in the team and the way they are playing. Am sure they will surprise Nigerians in there next match.
